Establishing a Special Committee to Review Parking Issues in the Immediate Area of the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building Responsible Department: Community A Economic Development Council Order 99-230 has been introduced for consideration by the City Corned, which, if adopted, would close the Ada Parking Lot The Community and Economic Development Committee has swuutmnended that a committee bef ed to review parking issues in the immediate ares of the Federal Building. As a result, Council Order 99-230 has been tabled by the Council. his following Order would authorize the Chair of the City Council to appoint acommittee under the provisions of § 9-9 of the City Cede to review Parking issues in the immediate area of the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building and to report its recommendations to the Community Bad Economic Development Committee of the City Council on or before October 6,1999. In addition to two City tornadoes, persons appointed to the container would represent the U.S. Genal Services Administration, U.S. Post Office, the Bangor Center Corporation, the Bangor Public Library, and Republic Parking. Order, Establishing a Special Committee to Review Parking Issues in the Immediate Area of the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building WHEREAS, there exists a high level of vehicular traffic on Harlow Street in the area of the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building, complicated by vehMes entering and exiting parking spaces on Harlow Strut in front of the Federal Building, and by a high number of vehicular turning moven andsi to and from Harlow and ad)acent streets, businesses and parking areas; and WHEREAS, the Atler Parking Lot is used extensively by patrons of the U.S. Post Office and other visitors to the Federal Building; and WHEREAS, existing vehicular ti -Ac poses a significant danger to pedestrians crossing Harlow Street to and from the Aller Parking Lot; and WHEREAS, the Ader Parking Lot and the Immediate public ways are in need of improvements to provide an acceptable level of safety for pedesWans and vehicular traffic; and WHEREAS, Council Order 99-230 has been introduced for consideration by the City Council, which, if adopted, would dose the Ater Parking Lot; and WHEREAS, the Community and Economic Development Committee of the City Council has rrcommended that a committee be formed to review parking issues in the immediate area of the Federal Building; NOW, THEREFORE, BE fr ORDERED BY THE CM COUNCIL OF THE CRY OF BANGOR, THAT: the Chair of the City Council is hereby authorized to appoint a special committee under the provisions of § 9-9 of the Code of the City of Bangor; that said committee shall review parking issues In the Immediate area of the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building and report its recommendations to the Community and Economic Development Committee of the City Council on or before October 6, 1999; that persons appointed to the committee represent the U.S. General Services Administration, U.S. Post Office, the Bangor Center Corporation, the Bangor Public Library, and Republic Parking; that two members of the City Council be appointed to represent the City Council, one of whom to be designated by the Coundl Chair as chair of the committee; and that the committee shall cease to exist October 12, 1999 unless extended by action of the Community and C-corwrnic Development Committee.
