HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-07-26 99-268 ORDERCOUNCIL ACTION Date: July 26 1999 Rem No. 99-268 Item/Subject: Authorizing Negotiations with the County of Penobscot - Former Grants Building, 6 Central Street Responsible Department: Community & Economic Development Commentary: This Resolve would authorize city staff to enter negotiations with the Penobscot County Commissioners for the potential sale or lease of the 6 Central Street to the County for its, and related, uses. The staff would be directed to negotiate exclusively with the Penobscot County Commissioners for the sale or lease of the property until the City Council meeting on December 27, 1999. 11tis will give the County time to perform an analysis of the potential uses that may be accommodated at 6 Central Street and to pursue actions necessary for the County to enter a lease o purchase agreement with the City. BBSOLVBD, WHEREAS the City has acquired title in the former W. T. Gants building at 6 Central Street to facilitate development and reuse of the long vacant and unutiBzed building in the core of the Bangor Center Revimliaation Area; and . WHEREAS the County of Penobscot, with County offices and related uses located adjacent to 6 Central Street, foresees the future need for additional building space w accommodate its needs and the needs of services related to the County of Penobscot; and WHEREAS time is needed to for the County, of Penobscot to perform an analysis of the potential uses that may be accommodated at 6 Central Street and to pursue actions necessary for the County to enter a lease or purchase agreement with the City of Bangor; and WHEREAS potential use of the property by the County of Penobscot conform to the City of Bangoea goals for redevelopment of the property; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR THAT the City Manager, City Solicitor and Director of Community Development are hereby mfiorized to enter negotiations with the Commissioners of do Courcy of Penobscot for the possible sale or lease of 6 Central Street w the County ofPenobscat; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT until December 27, t999 the City of Bangor will negotiate exclusively with the Commissioners of the County of Penobscot for the sale or lease of 6 Central Street for firwm consideration by the City Council, provided, however, the City of Bangor my continue to pursue and enter lease agreements for space within the building.
