Item No.99-129
Date: 3-10-99
Item/Subject: ORDER, Authorizing the City Manager to Accept
Additional Funding from Oakhurst Dairy's Tree Re Leaf Program
Responsible Department: Public Works - Forestry
Commentary:
The attached order authorizes the City to accept additional funding from Oakhurst Dairy to
replace trees that were lost during the ice storm. As you may know, Oakhurst Dalry had
previously given us funds under this program, and found themselves with additional funding to
be made available to communities. This program will allow us to make additional progress
toward replacing as many of our lost trees as Is practicable.
Oakhurst has indicated that they will reimburse the qty for up to $15,450. Of this, $15,000 will
be for tree replacement and $450 will be for the purchase of a new chain saw for the Forestry
Division.
Department Head
Manager's Comments: Recommend approval. These additional funds are largely the result
of Roland Perry's efforts.

RE Your Access To Federal Matching Funds
It was one year ago this month we all suffered from an incredible ice storm
that, I'm sure, none of us will ever forget. And, I'm sure that many
municipalities and organizations are still dealing with the results of damage
done to tees on public property.
To help you with purchasing and planting replacement trees and /or
pruning, Oakhurst Davy and the Maine Forest Service have teamed up to
secure additional dollars to extend the Oakhurst Tree ReLeaf program. Maine
qualified for federal matching funds due to the investment ($91,500 in Maine)
by a private company (Oakhurst Dairy). Leveraging Oakhurst money which
has already been invested in Tree ReLeaf has resulted in an additional
$274500 available for use in Maine.
If your organization participated in the original Tree ReLeaf program and
would like to apply for additional Tree ReLea£ dollars, you most agree to and
meet the following conditions:
1) Money will be spent only to alleviate damage to trees caused by the January
1S$$ ice storm on public property.
2) Money will be spent to purchase & plant new tees and/or to prune
damaged trees (including labor);
3) Eligible municipalities and organizations must be responsible for initial
costs and provide proof of expenditures (receipts, payroll records, cancelled
checks, etc.) in order to be reimbursed. No funds will be dispensed in advance
of purchases.
4) To ensure your reimbursement, we require a description of what you plan'
to do and estimated costs; we will notify you immediately as to whether or
not you will receive funding.

Congratulations.
Once all of your expenses have been incurred, please send Shelley Dunn a full
description of how the money was used and enclose all receipts (if an
expenditure was for labor, you must submit proof of wages paid). She will
then notify Tish Carr a second time and Tish will visit the area to confirm
