Proclaiming July 1, 2017 Canada Day
Whereas, the City of Bangor, Maine is a community that recognizes the special
relationship between Canada and Maine; and
Whereas, July 1, 2017 marks Canada's 150th anniversary as a nation; and
Whereas, Bangor is proud of its enduring connection with its sister city of St John,
New Brunswick; and
Whereas, Bangor shares a close relationship with Canada through our proximity to
Maine's borders with Quebec and New Brunswick; and
Whereas, Bangor is enriched by visitors from Canada through tourism and
immigration; and
Whereas, Bangor has benefitted from the gift of Canadian culture and foods; and
Whereas, Arthur Milnes, of Kingston, Ontario, has invited Bangor to participate in a
time capsule, to be opened in 2117 on the 250th anniversary of Canada Day, "as a
tribute to the historic bonds of friendship and history between our two nations."
Now, Therefore, I, Joseph M. Baldacci, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the
City Council, and the citizens of Bangor, do hereby proclaim July 1, 2017 Canada Day
and encourage all residents to celebrate the establishment of Canada.
Given this day the 26th of June.
Joseph M. Baldacci, Mayor
