'4.p ..... .1,401 4 '-'04rEl 01.:R1 jib_ 011* Nile-46 Arco anitton RECOGNIZING 2017 MAINE LIFESMARTS CHAMPIONS FROM UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CENTER, MAINE VOCATIONAL #4 WHEREAS, LifeSmarts, established in 1994, is a program of the National Consumers League and an educational opportunity for students in 9th - 12th grades; and WHEREAS, The competition prepares students to enter the world as smart consumers and focuses on five key topic areas: consumer rights and responsibilities, the environment, health and safety, personal finance, and technology; and WHEREAS, Students from the Business Leadership program at United Technologies Center, Maine Vocational #4, competed through a rigorous online qualification in order to qualify for the State of Maine Competition; and WHEREAS, The UTC students competed at the Maine State Competition and won, earning their place at the National Competition; and WHEREAS, As representatives of Bangor, in April 2017, these students attended the National Competition in Pittsburgh, PA, coming in 23rd in the nation; and WHEREAS, As individual competitors, Noah Larson and Shayna Coombs finished in the top 12 in the Last Smartie Standing Competition; and WHEREAS, The UTC team represented Bangor with intelligence and courage at both the State and National Competitions. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph M. Baldacci, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the City Council and the citizens of Bangor, do hereby recognize the 2017 Maine LifeSmarts Champions as a team and Noah Larson and Shayna Coombs for their individual contributions, and congratulate them on their success.
