Under present state and local regulations, the fire safety of food trucks and similar vendors is largely unregulated. Ensuring the safety of cooking equipment used by these vendors is important for the safety of employees and their customers. The proposed regulations are based on the 2015 version of the NFPA 1, the fire code that the State is intending to adopt soon. Those regulations are modified in the attached ordinance so that tents are not required to have full fire suppression systems; this change is allowed by NFPA 1. The rest of the proposed ordinance codifies what the City has typically asked of these types of concessions. This item was discussed at the Government Operations Committee meeting on April 19, 2017.
