HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-08-28 00-331 ORDER[tem No. 00-931 Date: 08L 28 gg Item/Subject: ORDER Authorizing Execution Documents Necessary to Complete Environmental Assessment of Penobscot River and Authorization to Pursue Legal Remedies Responsible Department: Legal By Council Order 99-64 the City Council authorized the undertaking of an environmental assessment of the Penobscot River and the required legal research into the source and potential liability for the deposition of coal tar deposits in the River bed. The initial environmental assessment and legal research has identified probable sources of coal tar deposits and other environmental problems and sources of potential liability. Further environmental work and legal action is required to determine the extent of the environmental problems and to pursue potentially liable source(s). This Order authorizes the City Manager to execute any documents required to complete Me environmental work to assess the damage and clean-up alternatives and costs. It also authorizes the City Manager and City Solicitor's Office to approve appropriate legal action to recover costs from potentially liable source(s).
