The City is eligible to apply for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant from the Bureau of Parks and
Land to assist with the development of new "Creative Playground' in Hayford Park on Union 9tmeL

Bureau funds. The City will need m approve the project and secure funding prior to June 30, 2000 to
receive Some muds. Great monies up to a madmum of $25,000 per applicant are available and local
match mthe vicinity of 50%($12,500) is required. The local match in this case would he supplied by the
use of City personnel end equipment on rhe Creative Playground project.

We have previously discussed the need In replace the current creative playground with a new and more
durable structure. If successful, this grant will onset a pardon of the estimated $130,009 cost of a new
facility. I would recommend your approval. Q

(TITLE.) order, Authorizing Application to the Maine Bureau of
Parks and Lands for an Outdoor Recreation Facilities Grant
By Me Cary Cowed of Me Cin, ojeangor:
WHEREAS, the U.S. Congress has made funds available from the Federal Land
and Water Conservation Fund; and
WHEREAS, the (Sty established the Hayford Park Treative Playground' on Union
Street in 1988; and
WHEREAS, the exlsting playground is of unsafe wood construction and
Inadequate design, and does not meet current playground safety standards, the City
needs to replace the existing playground with a modem and safe facility; and
WHEREAS, funding under the Land and Water Conservation Fund can be used
for this outdoor recration facility project;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED BY THE CIN COUNCIL OF THE CIN OF
BANGOR THAT, the City Manager be authorized to apply to the Stare of Maine Bureau
of Parks and Lands for an Outdoor Recreation Facility Grant; and that the City Manager
be authorized to receive and disburse such funds in accordance with the grant
guidelines, if the City is successful in its application.
