Resolve, Supporting State Referendum Question #3, A $61,000,000 Bond Issue to Improve Highways, Bridges, Airports and Other Facilities and Projects. WHEREAS, Maine's voers will go to the polls on November 6, 2001 to cast ballots on six bond Issues on the State referendum ballot; and WHEREAS, question 3 will authorize a $61,000,000 bond issue for improvements to highways and bridges, public transit and ferry facilities, the development of rail, trail and marine infrastructure, and improvements to internodal facilities statewide; and WHEREAS, approval of this bond issue will make the State eligible far up to $120,800,000 in mat ing federal funds; and WHEREAS, over the past few years, the State has begun to make significant progress in addressing the needs of our transportation infrastructure, progress which can only continue if this question is approved' and WHEREAS, a quality transportation infrastructure is necessary for the State to improve the economic opportunity afforded to all of its residents, particularly those in Northern and Eastern Maine; and WHEREAS, among the projects included in this bond issue are a number of importance to the Greater Bangor region including funding for: Intermodal facilities, including Bangor, to provide connectivity to reactivated rail services and to the marine highway along Main's coast and rivers; transit bus replacement; the State share of the Airport Improvement Program including funding for reconstruction of the runway at Bangor International Airport; and a variety of Improvements to roads and highways in the region. NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED By THE CRY COUNCIL OF THE CRY OF BANGOR, THAT we hereby express our support for Question 3 and urge the voters of the City and throughout our region to support this question in the November 6, 2001 election. 01-413 SUSPWffiION OF HOLCS f Assigned to Couvcflor October 22, 2001 CITY OF BANGOR (TITLE.)
