[tem/Subject Order, Proposing Amendment to Bangor Cty Charter, Article 11, Section 2, City Council —
City Counal Compensation (Without Annual Adjustment)
Nesponsible Department: City Council
For some time, the City Council has been reviewing a proposal to amend the Cry Charter to adjust
Counal Compensation. This recommendation has come forward from a citizen's committee which
independently undertook a review of compensation, including a comparison of the compensation paid
W other Councilors throughout the State.
The attached amendment would increase compensaFon from its current $900 per year, an amount
which has been in effect since the 1950's, to $2,000 with an additional $500 for Council Chair. Unlike
the previous amendment, however, it would not provide a new mechanism for annual compensation
adjustments.
A public hearing must first be held on this older. following the hearing, the Coundl must take action if
it desires this Rem to appear on the November ballot.
Department Head
