Item/Subject: Order -Authorizing the City Manager to apply for $58,850 in funds as part
of the Juvenile Accountability Block Grant Program

The police department has been notified that we may be eligible to receive up to $58,850 in funds
available thmugh the Juvenile Accountability Mock Grant Program. The City of Bangor has already taken
advantage of this program and was awaked $30,578 in the year 2000, and an add coral $19,600 in
2001. This money was used W develop the juvenile diversion program known as "Jump Start", which has
been administered by the YMCA. A portion of these funds have and will continue to support our Police
Athletic League. If approved, this new money would be used to continue these programs through
September 30, 2002. The program would continue to be administered by the YMCA and the Gry of
Banes role is that of the fiscal agent. There is a 10% match obligation that the YMCA has agreed W
cover.
