The proposed amendment would proylde Mat School Committee members could only serve three complete consecutive terms. ORDER, Public Hemngon Proposed Amendment to Bangor City Charter, Article II -A, Section 2, Superintending School Committee -- Term Limimtion for Committee Members BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, BE IT ORDERED, THAT an amendment to the Bangor City Chester to create term limits for members of Ne Bangor School Committee should be considered. THAT the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed, pursuant to 30-A M.R.S.A. Section 2104, to provide for published notice of public hearing to be held on November 25, 2002 at 7:00 p.m, in the City Council Chambers for the purpose of considering the proposed amendment to the Bangor City Charter, Ne text of said proposed amendment and an explanation thereof being as follows: ARTICLE II -A .rxrarxrrrrara+aarere+++e++++ **Sec. 2. Composition, Election, Tenure of Office. The Supefimending School Committee shall consist of 7 members to be elected, at large, by popular vote from among the qualified voters of Me City of Bangor. These members of the committee holding office at the time this amendment takes effect shall serve until their terms expire and their successors are duly elected and qualified. The remaining 2 positions shall be filled at a special election to be held not more than 90 days after the effective date of this amendment. The candidate accruing Ne largest total of votes at the municipal election shall be elected to serve until the first Monday in November, 1984, and the candidate receiving the next to Ne hugest lata] number of votes shall be elected to serve until the film Monday in November, 1984, and the candidate receiving the next lathe largest total number of votes shall be elected to serve until the first Monday in November, 1983. Thereafter, at each regular municipal election the qualified voters of Me City shall ballot for candidates for office on Me committee whose terms expire that year. All members of the Superintending School Committee shall serve for terms of 3 years and until their successors are duly elected and qualified. Sec 11. No terms served prior to the regularly scheduled 2004 municipal election would be coumed as one or more of the tiree(3) complete consecutive terms. School Committee members will still he permitted to serve for any number of non<onsecutive terms." (STATEMENTOFFACT: Additions to the existing Chanorprovisions are underlined. The intent of this amendment is to limit members of the Superintending School Committee to three (3) consecutive terns in office.)
