This BoaN was ansate] for persons who may be aggrieved by the decision of the Registrar of
Voters to remove a name from the voting list or m refuse m place a name on the voting list. The person
may appeal to the Registration Appeals Boartl in wnhng . The Chair of the board would then immadurnly

Each major political parry must nominate one member and one alternate member (three year terms). The
municipal clerk nominates the third member. The Chalrperson (four year tem) is the member nominated
by the clerk
The Republican City Committee has nominated the fallowing members: G. CliRar Eames, Regular Member
& Catharine Lebowitz, Alternate Member
The Democratic City Committee has nominated the following members: John Hanson, Regular Member &
Millam Carlin, Alternate Member
The Ory Clerk nominates Alfrel Burned as the Chair

Registration Appeals Board:
This Board was created for persons who may beaggrieved by the decision of the Registrar of Voters to
remove a name from the voting list or to refuse to place it on the voting list. The person may appeal to
the Registration Appeals Board in writing. The Chair ofthe Board would than immediately fix a time
and place for the Board to meet for a prompt hearing.
From the Secretary of State:'"fhe Board plays an important role in protecting citizens from being denied
the rightto register to vote, however, since registrars are very conscientious in performing their duties,
very few appeals will be expected".
Since the inception of the Registration Appeals Bound (1995) we have not had occasion to call on the
Board to hear an appeal.
The Bomd consists of Members'

The Chairperson of the committee is the member nominated by me Clerk
The term is three years (or until successor is appointed) for the members nominated by the political
parties and four years for the chair.

Dear Gail;
The Bangor Democratic City Committee is pleased to forward the names of
John R. Hanson (28 Momentum View Avenue) as Member and William Carlin,
(183 Harlow Street) as Alternate Member to serve on the Bangor Voter
Registration Board of Appeals.
Both Mr. Hanson and Mr. Carlin were duly nominated and selected to serve at
our regularly scheduled meeting held on Saturday, December 9, 2001.

In accordance with Title 21 A, Chapter 3, §103 of Maine Elation Law, I am requesting nominations from the
Republican City Committee for 1 Regular Member and 1 Altemate Member to serve on the Registration Appeals
Board for the City of Bangor.
Currently the Republican Board Members are'. G. Clifton Eames (Regular) and Calamine Lebowitz (Mandate).
I would ask that you meet with your committee as soon as possible and submit to me in writing you
