Since that time, the Qty's telecommunications consultant has been reviewing the proposals and negotiating with the respondents. The attached tabulation outlines the final prices for the various services requested. Phase I represents the City's costs for all services as they are now. Phase II prices reflect the City's probable cots after the new Inefttitional network (I -net) and new equipment are installed It is interesting to note that Verizon, the provider of all telephone lines since the beginning, did not respond to the City's request for proposals. Their reason was that they could not be competitive in today's market. This explanation was home out in the proposals that we recewed. The lowest prices were submitted by Mid -Maine Communimtans and their annual prices were about $47,000 less than what we currently pay for the same services. The contract award recommendation to Mid -Maine Communications was reviewed and approved by the Rnance Committee on June 5, 2002 and referred to the City Council for final approval.
