Item/Subject: ORDER, Authorizing the City Manager to Execute a Collective Bargaining
Agreement Between the City of Bangor and the Bangor Firefighters Association, Local 7721

CommeuMan7: Labor negotiations with the Bangor firefighters Association, Local 772, representing
approximately 90 employees at the Fire Department, have resulted in a tentative agreement between the
parties. This agreement was subsequently ratified by the union membership on August 7s. The contract
follows the June 30, 2002 expiration of the mast recent agreement.
Major points of significance include the following: 3 year term -July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2005; on -duty
non -emergency transfers, no wage scale adjustments In year one, varying wage adjustments and step
adjustments year two and a 2.5% wage adjustment year three, reductions to the EMS stipend schedule,
a slight increase in educational stipends for degrees, continuation of the current health plan cost sharing
formula, an Increase in hours paid for holiday work, dadfcadon of probadoua y period, and several other
minor language/housekeeping changes.
The City Council has had an opportunity to review and discuss the significant agreement terms and
conditions in Executive Session on several occasions, and the proposed contract is within established
bargaining guidelines. The Agreement is presented with the recommendation of the Management
Negotiating Committee and I would recommend its approval as well. �77 y/p,��
