HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-04-10 Proclamation <<, BANGOR CITY COUNCIL CITY VF$AN60R, mole. ,� til u v PROCLAIMING APRIL 17111- APRIL 22ND, 2017 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a partnership of federal, state, and local government, as well as private sector, non-profit, and community efforts; and WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant program's primary objective is the development of viable urban communities, by providing decent housing, suitable living environments, and expanded economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate income persons; and WHEREAS, the City of Bangor has received a total of $37,772,659.00 in Community Development Block Grant Funds with an average award of approximately 1.2 million dollars per year since 1982; and WHEREAS, the City of Bangor has been able to use Community Development Block Grant Funds to provide 675 loans for residential, facade, revitalization, business development, urban development, and handicap access loans; as well as funding for 24 park and playground projects; and WHEREAS, in the last five years alone, the City of Bangor has been able to offer 62 Residential Rehab Loans with 87 dwelling units as well as 6 Business Development Loans that created 98 new jobs; and WHEREAS, a week recognizing national community development will encourage the City Council, non-profit organizations, and residents throughout the City to reaffirm the significance and diversity of their local community development program efforts toward meeting the need of persons of low and moderate income; and WHEREAS, this year marks the 43rd anniversary of the CDBG Program and the 31st anniversary of the National Community Development Week Campaign. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph M. Baldacci, Mayor of the City of Bangor, Maine on behalf of the City Council do hereby proclaim April 17th through April 22nd, 2017 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK in the City of Bangor, and give special thanks and recognition to all participants whose hard work and devotion to the neighborhoods and their low and moderate income residents help insure the quality and effectiveness of the Community Development Block Grant Program.
