Commentary:
As a result of being chosen as Maine's representative in the Continental Harmony Project of America, the
Bangor Symphony received a grant to hire a canposer-In-residence m compose Bangor's new symphony,
"Back to the River: Discovering Banga's Roots." The symphorry pians M unwell this piece to the world at
Me Bangor Auditorium on October 23u. BSO raiuested a Oty sponsorship of $25,000 In cash and up to
$5,000 for the use of the Auditorium. The total estimated budge for Me world premiere Is $59,225. The
attached order authorizes the City to provide support in the amount of $15,000 in cash and up M $3,900
for the cost of the Auditorium.
This request was reviewed and approved by the Finance Committee under Me Ory's Bass Park Rate and
funding of Non -Profit Organizations Policies It was further discussed at a workshop of the Council prior
to It last meeting, while a variety of opinions were expressed by members of the Council ranging from a
higher level of funding to no funding, this proposal received the support of five of the eight members who
were present. The attached order would authorize City sponsorship as Identified above.

WHEREAS, the Bangor Symphony Orchenra was selected as Maine's repremdatlw: In the Ocmdrental
