Maine DHHS has stag its intent to provide funding in 2006 at the $100,000 level to continue funding the position and expanded program activities. Resolve, Accepting and Appropriating Additional Immunization Program Gram Funds from Maine Department of Health and Human Services BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR THAT additional grant funds totaling approximately $42,500 from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services are hereby accepted and appropriated for the purpose of expanding the present immunization program by hiring a public health immunization educator, establishing an office for the position, acquiring necessary office equipment, and undertaking other actions which may be necessary to implement the program. From now until January le, we would be expected to do the following: • Participate in 2-3stateplanting meetings. Portland is being asked to participate as well. • Submit a grant commune for 20061hat would include new and expanded dehverablea • Procure o%cespace(we have room with Glona Cole's retirement) and equipment (PC, phone, eta) • Post position and advertise The goal with this position is to increase immunization rates (Maine has gone from 5n in the US to 27n in the past few years). The s aregies would be to visit primary care and pedmuncoffices, have a presence at health fairs and other public fosmns, eta. The northenm 5 counties of the state would be the territories involved. Outputs would be how we are measured initially with outcomes measured down the road. Fending comes from CDC soil appears relatively stable The State is seeking a response to their proposal. We would recommend that the City respond affirmatively.
