HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-05-09 05-144 ORDERCOUNCILAMON Item No 05-144 Date: 05-09-05 Item/Subject: Order — Authorizing the City Manager to Apply for up to $2,500 in Funds from the State of Maine Bureau of Highway Safety for the Purpose of Purchasing a User Speed Gun Responsible Department: police The Sate of Maine Bureau of Highway Safety has funds available to assist local and state law enforcement agencies with their seatbelt enforcement efforts. The grant calls for stepped up enforcement for the 2 weel6 around Memorial Day. The purpose Is to generate as many slops as possible for speed, Inspection, red light, etc., violations with an eye toward seatbelt enforcement The grant provides overtime reimbursement and a $1,000 cash incentive to purchase approved equipment for the purpose of highway safety. Departments with successful programs could be eligible far more cash Incentive money. Our Intention Is to use the Special Enhancement Team for this effort and not generate overtime or request overtime reimbursement. Our hope Is to get additional cash incentive money so that we can purchase a laser speed gun. Ust year we ran a similar program and were awarded a radar gun.
