Work on the former Grants Building is well underway, but is taking longer than expected delaying the UMS move into the building. This amendment would extend the data by which the exchange of property takes place from June 30, 2005 to October 31, 2005 to allow ample time for work to be completed and the move to take place. The Business and Economic Committee recommends approval. Department Head Manager's Comments: Recommend approval. %� 4 - Ciry Manager Associated Information: - - - - _ - Finance Director Legal Approval CIN Sdicttor X Passage _ First Reading Page _ M_ Referral - AnignedtoCouncilor Stoae June 13: 2005 5 CITY OF BANGOR Cl=E.) order, Authorizing Amendment m Agreement wth Me University, of Mein System Extending the Gate for the Exdmnge of property for the Purpose of Relocating the System Office and Expanding Development Opportunities in the Maine Business Enterprise Park WHEREAS, the City Council, by passage of Council Order 09-152 on May 24, 2004, authorized an agreement with the University, of Maine System for the exchange of properties to allow the System to relocate is offices w the upper three floors of the Grant's Building in downtown Bangor in return for the Ory, recanting properties adjacent to the Maine Business Enterprise Park; and WHEREAS, this exchange will complete the reuse of the Grant's Building and bdng 120 new employees into the downtown; increase activity and provide additional customers for downtown businesses; strengthen the already strong relationship between the City and the University of Maine System; and provide the City additional property adjacent to Its Maine Business Enterprise Park to be used for economic development, jab creation, tax base enhancement or other public purposes; and WHEREAS, the Agreement stipulated that the exchange of property would take place on or before June 30, 2005; and WHEREAS, Improvements to the Grants Building for occupancy by UMS are well underway but are tatting slightly longer than originally antapated; NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED BY THE CRY COUNCR OF THE crrY OF BANGOR THAT Me City Manager is hereby authorized to execute an amendment to the Agreement between the City of Bangor and University of Maine System dated July 3Q 2009 changing all references to the data June 30, 2005 in Amide 1 to read October 31, 2005.
