Recreational Trails Grant Program.

This Council Order will authorize the City Manager to apply for, receive and disburse
Recreational Trails Grant Program funds. Grant monies up to a maximum of $35,000 per
applicant with a required minimum local match of 20% ($7,000) are available through the
Maine Department of Conservation, 2005 Recreational Trails Grant Program. The Project will
include packing lot and hail improvements, picnic tables, plantings, and informational/
educational signage In the area adjacent to Valley Avenue/14v Street Extension. The proposed
project has been developed cooperatively by Bangor Beautiful, Parks and Recreation, and Public l
Works, who will provide in-kind local match. Bangor Beautiful also has funding which will be
utilized toward the match. This grant, if awarded, will enable the City, in cooperation with
Bangor Beautiful, to undertake the development and maintenance of the Kenduskeag Gateway
Park along Kenduskeag Stream.

CITY OF BANGOR
(TITLE.) Order, Authorizing Application to the Maine Department of Conservation,
2005 Recreational Trails Grant Program.
WHEREAS, the National Highway Systems Act transfers federal gas razes paid on nwhighway
recreational fuel used in off-highway vechicles from the Highway Trust Fund into
the Recreational Trolls Program for trail development, Improvement and
maintenance; and
WHEREAS, the City has established the Kenduskeag Stream Trail System as a valued
community recreational resource; and
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted the City of Bangor Comprehensive Plan 2000 on July 24,
2000 that IdentiOes natural resource management and recreation goals; and
WHEREAS, the City row seeks funds to assist In the implementation of the recommendations
of Its Comprehensive Plan 2000 and the Bangor Beautiful Program; and
WHEREAS, the Recreational Trails Grant Program in the Maine Department of Canservatlon
makes grant funds available to communities for trail development and
improvement activities;
NOW, THEREFORE BE 1T ORDERED BY THE CRY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR THAT,
the City Manager be authorized to apply to the Maine Department of Conservation, 2005
Recreational Trails Program; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED THAT the City Manager be authorized to receive and disburse such
funds in accordance with the grant guidelines, if the City is successful in Its application.
