NXI Item/Subject Authorizing the Acclubiticn of 116 Main Street Reaponsible Department Community and Economic Development This property located at 116 Main Street is the site of the tragic fire that destroyed the Masonic Building in downtown Bangor. The Masons do not intend to rebuild on this site and intend to make it available for purchase by others. It is in the best interest of the Ory M Bangor to gain control of the future use of rhe site as part of its congnuing efforts to improve the economic vitality of the downtown and downtown waterfront. On an immediate basis, the proposetl use of the property, if acquired by the City, would be to Improve and landscape the space. It would then potentially also be available for future development The acquisition and improvement of the property is an eligible expense under the City's Federally funded Community Development Program. The Director of Community and Ec«orntc Development is hereby authorized to secure an appraisal of the property by an independent qualified and licensed real estate appraiser; 2. The Business and Economic Development Committee Is authored to approve all offers for the purchase and acquisition of the property; and 3. Upon the araeptaroe of an offer by Ne owner(s) of the property, the City Manager or Director of Community ant Economic Development are authorized to acquire the property on behalf of the tlry of Bangor and to Beane such dowmerhrs approved by the Ory Soberer or Assistant City Solicitor as may be requiretl to cansummete the purchase by the Ory of Bangor.
