Though included in the 2005 Code the provision could not go into effect until 2008 because manufacturers do not have the ability to manufacture them in sufficient quantity. 4. 2404(c) Overcument Protection: Protection of Conductors For devices rated no more than 1800 amps, the next higher standard of overcurenl device rating shall be permitted to be used with conditions spelled out in the Code. 5. 313.3 Handhole Enclosures Defines the use of handhole enclosures- a junction box comparable to a miniature manhole but providing hand access only -Sizes -Wiring entries -Covers 05-22 Awember 22, 2004 6. 430 pt. X Adjustable speed drive systems The increasing popularity of these systems is being driven by their increased reliability, lower energy consumption and longer lifespan. The BWD is changing all of its pump motors to this kind. The Code brings all regulation of VSPM into one section. Z 409 (New) Industrial Control Panels Perhaps the most significant change to the NEC, this change addresses an issue that has long troubled installers and inspectors with regard to field manufactured, non -listed control panels. 6. 506(New) Zone 20,21 and 22 location for Flammable Dusts This section abates an entirely new article cancelling a zone clarification for electrical and electronic equipment and wiring in locations where fire and explosion hazards exist due to combustible dusts. 9. 527.4.J.1 Support of Temporary Installations- Including Holiday Decorative Lighting Requires cable assemblies and flexible cables and cards be supported in place at intervals that insure they will be protected from physical damage- support can be in the form of staples, cable ties or similar things. Also this section finally clears ambiguity - allowing vegetation to be used to support overhead spans of branch circuit conductors for the lights. 10. Natural and Artificial & Man-made Bodies of Water (New) This new section was added to govern installations, in and adjacent to, bodies of water that aren't currently governed by Article 660 which pertains to swimming pools, fountains and similar installations.
