CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS
1. Review of Waterfront Master Plan
Representatives of Carol R. Johnson, our consulting firm on the waterfront,
will be present to review the most recent waterfront master plan with the
Council.
2. Naming the Waterfront
The Business and Economic Development Committee has reviewed the
attached information regarding suggested names for our waterfront project.
After discussion, the Committee focused on four proposed names based on
the Committee's preference that Bangor appear in the name: Bangor
Waterfront; Bangor Rlverfront; Bangor Landing; Bangor Harbor (Place). The
members of the Committee then rank ordered the names, with 1 assigned to
the most preferred and 4 to the least preferred. Based on this process, the
following rank order was developed.
Bangor Riverfront (8)
Bangor Waterfront (12)
Bangor Landing (14)
Bangor Harbor (I6)
The Committee then voted to forward these recommended names in rank
order to the full Council.

Over the past month or so, m have been dealing w0h die issue of selecting a name for
our Waterfront project and potentially finding a new name for Railroad/Front Street.

public. At our recent neighborhood meetings, for a mple, Mose who attended were
asked to indicate their preferences if they desired.
Attadred, please find a summary of the responses we have received W date. The first
column indicates the rank order preferences of the fwe members of the Council who
responded to our request to rank the names (from 1(highest) M three or five for the
street and project respectively). The column to the right of the list of names shows the
suggestions that were received from the members of the public who attended the
neighborhood meetings. Please now that we received ten responses. I have also
included in this column the top priority Choices from prior Councilors Crowley, Farnham,
and Rohman who completed a similar form M about the time that they left the Council.
We also received two email responses which are included at the bottom of the
summary.

The following street names received at least one first place rating by members of the
Council:

Waterfront
Three citizens recommended Riverpark. Please note that a number of suggestions came
from ddzens of names that were net on the list.
The vertical features planned for the enhance to the waterfront and M be located at
Main and Railroad have provisions for including the project name on them. We have the
construction of Mese features on fold, pending resolution of the naming issue. We are
approaching the point where a name must be selected won if we are to have these
features built and installed this year.
At this p iM, I would recommend MM the committee attempt W develop a short list of
project and street names for consideration by the full Coundl. For project names, I
would suggest Mat we begin with dose that appear to have support from members M
the Council or the public. These would include:
• Bangor Landing
• Bangor Waterfront (2)
• Penobscot Heritage Park
• Penobscot landing
• Rivernont Park
• Bangor Rlverfront Park
• Port Bangor
• Queen City Landing
Similarly, the following Street names appeared to have wine support:
River
._.River(g
(2)
Rivefiant
WaMrfroM
• Riverpark
As a suggestion, the Committee might wish to reduce these lists W We potential project
names and three street names for further consideration by the Council, perhaps at the
upcoming workshop scheduled with representatives M our consulting firm.
