Item/Subject Order, Authorizing Discontinuance Of a Portion of May Street
Responsible Department: Engineering
Commentary:
The attached Order would start the process of discontinuing a portion of May Street between Summer Street
and Gallagher Place (the short street behind the Bangor House). This portion is not needed to serve as a
public street. The proposed discontinuance would result in greater opportunity m create parking fm the new
police station, which would connect directly with the existing City owned parking lot behind the Bangor
House. It would also reduce traffic congestion and improve safety by eliminating vehicular taming
movements and crossing of Summer Street. -
This is the first step of the street discontinuance process, which Is de5ned by Stal Statutes. Ager providing
proper notification and conducting a public hearing on the proposed discontinuance, the City Engineer will
submit a written report and recommendation to the City Council for further action.
