This portion is not needed to serve as a public street. The proposed discontinuance would result in greater opportunity m create parking fm the new police station, which would connect directly with the existing City owned parking lot behind the Bangor House. It would also reduce traffic congestion and improve safety by eliminating vehicular taming movements and crossing of Summer Street. - This is the first step of the street discontinuance process, which Is de5ned by Stal Statutes. Ager providing proper notification and conducting a public hearing on the proposed discontinuance, the City Engineer will submit a written report and recommendation to the City Council for further action. Order, Authorizing Discontinuance of a Portion of May Street WHEREAS, the City of Bangor will be constructing a new Police Station on a parcel of land hounded by Main Street, Cedar Street, Summer Street, and May Street; and WHEREAS, discontinuance of a portion of May Street would provide additional area to develop necessary parking for the new Police Station and improve traffic safetu and circulation in the vicinity of the new station; and WHEREAS, the portion of May Street between Gallagher Place and Summer Street Is not necessary to serve the public need as a street.
