Responsible Department: City Clerk Commentary: In October, the City Council increased the allowable rates of fares that an be charged by taxicabs licensed in the Gty of Bangor on a temporary basis. Those fares are scheduled to sunset on April 21, 2006. Atthe same time, the Council established the Taxicab Regulation Advisory Committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the City's current cab regulations and m make recommendations to the Oty Council. While that Committee has begun Its work, R may not complete Its recommendations in time forthe Council to consider them and adoptthem prior to the sunset data of tihe temporary fare increase. An extension of this date has been requested. The attached ordinance would extend the temporary fare increase until June 30, 2006. This should allow ample time for the committee to complete its work and report to the Council and for the Ccunal W consider its recommendations and ad on them. Working toward this date, any changes would require first reading on or before the Council's May 29e meeting, action at the meeting of June 12'", and become effective on June 22n°. As you may recall, fares were increased from $1.30 W $1.50 for the find one-sixth of a mile and from $.30 to $.35 for each addlbonal one-sixth of a mile.
