Commentary: The Commission on Cultural Developments mission Is to promote the development of
Bangor as a regional arts center that nurtures the artistic and cultural expression of its diverse peoples,
as provided In Chapter 95, Cultural Development The Commission Is charged to review the proposal of
any public art or monument in accordance wet the Public Art & Monuments Policy and to make a
recommendation on accepting and locating it to the Bangor Ory Council, which has the sole authority to
adopt, reject, or revise any such recommendation.
Thomas G. Civiello has proposed to donate a park bench W be placed, in a spot chosen by Bangor Packs
and Recreation in Fairmount Park, in memory of his mother, Joyce Elizabeth Civiello. The bench would be
of the style placed along Front Street and Railroad Street in 2003 and 2004, which constitutes the current
standard genemlly preferred her City parks. Affixed W the bench will be a 2" by 10" plaque engraved "In
loving memory of Joyce Elizabeth Civiello. The Commission noted in its review process that the project
met the guidelines for accepting public an and monuments to be located on City property. The Council for
Cultural Development recommends that the City Council approve acceptance of this gift.

WHEREAS The Commission on Cultural [ opment's mission Is to promote the development
of Bangor as a regional arcs carter that nurtures the artistic and cultural e>lprestion
of its diverse peoples, as provided in Chapter 95, Cultural Development and
WHEREAS the Commission is authorized to review proposals in accordance with the Public Art &
Monuments Policy and to recommend acceptance and location of proposed an and
monuments to the Bangor City Council; and
WHEREAS The Bangor City Council shall have the sole authority to adopt, rejesm or revise any
such recommendation; and
WHEREAS Thomas G. Cwlello has proposed to donate a park bench to be placed, in a spot
chosen by Bangor Parks and Recreation In Fairmount Palk, in memory of his
mother, Joyce Elizabeth [Aiello; and
WHEREAS The Commission noted in Its review process Mat Me project met the guidelines for
accepting public act and monuments to be looted on City properly;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER ORDERED by the City Council of the City of Bangor, THAT:
Thomas G. CSviello's donation of a park bench W be placed in Fairmount Park in memory of his
mother, Joyce Elizabeth Civitllo, is hereby accepted.
