BANGOR CITY COUNCIL ,.v ..�..�-- CITY aRN60R, 11372 e.. .� �0 't 00v PROCLAIMING APRIL 4th, 2017 MAYOR AND COUNTY RECOGNITION DAY FOR NATIONAL SERVICE WHEREAS, every day, in counties and cities across America, national service is tackling tough problems and strengthening communities; and WHEREAS, counties and cities throughout the country are increasingly turning to national service as a cost effective strategy to address local issues; and WHEREAS, the Corporation for National & Community Service's mission to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement matches the broad range of responsibilities that city and county governments have to their residents; and WHEREAS, the Corporation for National & Community Service is able to leverage federal and private funds for organizations to help them achieve measurable results to fulfill their missions of supporting food banks and homeless shelters, providing health services, strengthening public safety, and encouraging learning; and WHEREAS, a coordinated recognition day presents an opportunity to spotlight the key role that national service helps in solving local, county, and state problems; and WHEREAS, participating in the day will highlight the impact of citizen service, show support for nonprofit and national service groups, and inspire more individuals to serve their communities; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph M. Baldacci, Mayor of the City of Bangor, Maine on behalf of the City Council do hereby proclaim April 4th, 2017 MAYOR AND COUNTY RECOGNITION DAY FOR NATIONAL SERVICE in the City of Bangor. By volunteering and recognizing those who serve, we can come together to make a difference. Given this the 27th day of March, 2017. Joseph M. Baldacci, Mayor
