Commentary:
The Commission on Cultural Development's mission is to promote the development of Bangor as a
regional arts center that nurtures the sill and cultural expression of Its diverse peoples. The
Commission has been authorized by the City Council to review applications to the City for funding from
arts and cultural organizations and to recommend a course of action to Me City Coundl for their review
and consideration.
On March 30, 2007 the Bangor Public Llbrary submitted an applicetion for $900 to fund a year of free
daily passes to Me Maine Discovery Museum for Bangor Public Library members in good standing. Each
pass would allow free admission for two to four people, at least one of whom must be a child.
The Commission noted In Its review process that stral of this application Include (1) the collaboration
between the library and the museum, (2) Its very targeted purpose of reinforcing the connection between
different fors of arts and humanities, and (3) b5 direct and effective approach to audience development.
The museum pass program reaches a group of children whose families may not be able ro afford
museum tickets and families Me have demonstrated an Interest In the "Ams and Humanldes" by going
through the doors of the library. Abhough BPL receives funds directly from the all budget, the
Anal advantage dons collaborative project benefits Maine Discovery Museum. Furthermore, Me
application identified specific goals and measurement Mctia.
The Commission for Cultural Development recommends that the City Council approves a grant of $900

WHEREAS, the Commission on Cultural Development's mission is W promote Me

WHEREAS, the Commission Is authorized to review grant applimtlons from arts and cultural
organizations and recommend a course of action to the City Council for Meir

members in good standing, and each pass would allow free admission for two to

either the project description or the application; and
WHEREAS, the Commission noted that strengths of this application Include collaboration
