Last fall, staff and the Historic Preservation Commission held disacarore about the Commission's
outreach and educational role as specNed in the Cri Hbmrk Preservation Ordinance. Following
these informal discussions, it became known that, as a Ceded local Government, the City of
Bangor Is eligible m receive federal Ponding through Maine HiS Wia Preservation. In October we
were notified by the Maine Historic Preservation Cammisaon that we are eligible to receive $3,203 In
support of an educational brochure about the pry's historic properties and our preservation
ordinance. The matching potion of the grant will be provided through the work of our local
Commission Members and the Staff of the Code Enforcement Office. This project was given
preliminary review by the InfrestrucWre and Development SupportCommittee fall of 2W4 butwas
not pursued at that [lone due In worldoad considerations and concerns over the than pending
Palesky referendum.

Historic Preservation Commission and the Certificate of Appropriateness; Process
WHEREAS, the Sate of Maine through Maine Historic Preservation has made grant funds
available to Certified Local Government Historic Preservation Programs for
educational and outreach programs; and
WHEREAS, the City's Historic Preservation Commission vothes to apply far grant funding to
develop and educational brochure specific to Bangor's Historic preservation efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR THAT
the City Manager and/or the Code Enforcement Officer be authorized to apply far and accept a
grant to create an educational outreaN brochure to further the goals and objectives of
Bangor's Historic Preservation Program and Historic Preservation Commission.
