Order, Amending Section 7.7.4 of the City Personnel Rules and Regulations, Dental Insurance By the ply Croat// oftne City of Bangor: ORDERED, THAT Section 7.7.4 of the City Personnel Rules and Regulations is hereby amended as follows: 7.7.4 Dental Insurance The City offers group dental Insurance coverage to employees In regular full-time and regular raft -time positions. If selected, this coverage begins in the first full month follovdng the employee's date of hire. The cost of any coverage shall be paid for by participating employees and this plan is available to dependents and/or spouse. Participation in this benefit is not automatic and employees must Initiate a request to become enrolled. Further specific information regarding coverage and costs Is available through the Human Resources Office. Note: Additions are underlined. Approximately 140 employees, 28% of those eligible, participate through payroll deduction. Recently, interest has been expressed regarding expanding eligibility to include regularly scheduled Part-time employees as well. This would Increase those eligible by another 80-90 employees. As with participating full-time employees, the cost far this insurance would be paid completely by any part-time employees electing to participate. Delta Dental has agreed to amend our plan document to include this group of employees should the City wish to do W. This would be an opportunity to improve the fringe benefit offerings to our regular part-time employees at no cost to the City. This presents a nice opportunity for part-time employees to secure dental insurance coverage at reasonable group rates through payroll deduction. If the Committee approves the recommendation, a Council Order amending the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations by adding "regularly scheduled part-time employees" as an additional group of eligible employees for dental Insurance will be prepared and sent to the City Council for consideration and approval.
