Item/Subject: Order, Directing the City Clerk to Prepare Warrants and Ballots—Special
School Budget Va0lation Election —June 10, 2008.
Responsible Department: City Manager
As a result of the recently enacted State School Consolidation law, the City must schedule a
school budget validation election subsequent to the approval of the School Budget by the School
Committee and the City Council. As we have discussed during the budget review process, this
election should be held prior to the beginning of the next fiscal year on Jury 1' and mus[ be held
within ten days of final City Council approval of the School butlget. In order to reduce both
Inconvenience to the voters and costs, holding this election in conjunction with Me June 10P
primary appears to be the beat option.
The attached order will set the election data and the form of the validation Wesbon, which is set
by state statute.

Budget Validation Election — June 10, 2008.

ORDERED,
THAT the City Clerk is hereby directed to prepare the necessary warrants and ballots for a
Special Municipal Election W be held on June 10, 2008 for the purpose of validating the Fiscal
Year 2009 school budget. Said warrant shall be issued by Council Chair Hawes, acting on
behalf of the City Council; and
BE 7 FURTHER ORDERED THAT
The question to be submitted to the voters shall be In the following form
"Do you favor approving the Bangor School Department budget for the upcoming school year
that was adopted at the latest regional school unit budget meeting and Nat includes locally
raised funds Nat exceed the required local ocntdbution as described! in Ne Essential Programs
and Services Funding Act?
Yes No
A YES vote allows additional funds to be raised for K-12 public education.
A NO vote means additional funds cannot be raised for K-12 publk education ."
