Commentary: Labor negotiations win Police Commanding Mcers have resulted in a
Tentative Agreement between the City and Union Negotiating Committees. nis Agreement
follows the lune 30, 2007 expiration of the most record agreement between the parties. Major
points of significance include: a three-year term; wage adjusonents of 3% year one, 3.25% year
two, and 3.25% year three; new healtn Insurance carrier, rates, and cast sharing base plan;
increases in education incentives, acting Lt. pay, and private duty extras; an Incentive; payment
for successful completion of physical fitness assessment, new disciplinary language; the addition
of new pay steps in the second and thiN years of the contract; and other routine housekeeping
changes.
The Commanding Omcers recently voted to ratify the proposed Tentative Agreement. The
Agreement has been readied within the bargaining guidelines previously established by the City
Council, and it is now ready for your mnsideration. This has been reviewed in Executive Session
with the Council. The Agreement is presented with the recommendation of the Management
Negohatlng Committee (Harty Courtoa, Ron Gastia and Peter Arno).
A copy of the entire agreement will be provided under separate cover in the Council packet

BE IT ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR THAT
the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a Collective Bargaining Agreement between
the City of Bangor and Maine Association of Police representing Police Commanding Officers for
a term of three years commenting July 1, 2007 and ending June 30, 2010.
