Commentary: This is a new grant in the amount of $80,000 to support a DlstrictTobacm Specialist
who will work with the four Comprehensive Community Health Coalitions In the
Penobscot/PiscataQuis district to assess tobacco prevention, control and treatment programs,
policies, and practices. It will be for the period 10/01/07-09/30/08. This funding will be used in
conjunction with the $480,976. that the Maine Department of Heath & Human Services, Center for
Disease Control, recently awarded to Bangor Heath & Welfare to develop a regional public health
infrastructure.

(TITLE.) Resolve, Appropriating a Grant from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services,
Center for Disease Control, to Support the Work of a DiabiR Tobacco Specialist
BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR:
BE IT RESOLVED that grant funds totaling $80,000 from the Maine Department of
Human Services are hereby appropriated for the purpose of hiring a District Tobacco Specialist
and providing the resources necessary to assess tobacco prevention, control, and treatment
programs, policies, and practices in the Penquls District.
