Basnd on be experience reviewing Public art and memorial projects over the past two years, the Commission for Cultural Development determined that the pokey should be canted! M assure that projects are completed in accordance wah their approved plans and that Me policy defines a process for addressing projects that do not comply with Meir approved plans. The attached order will add a new section 9 to the policy designating Me Art In Public Places subcommittee of the Commission as the responsible entity for reviewing the work upon completion to Insure that it conforms to approved plans. ORDER, Amending City Policy on "Guidelines and Procedures for Evaluating and Accepting Public Art and Monuments to be 1 -mated on City Property" WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bangor adopted the "Guidelirres and Procedures for Fl2luating and Accepting Public Art and Monuments M be Located on City Property' as City Policy by passage of Council Order M-153 on May 24, 2004 and amended it on June 13, 2DOS by Council Order 05-192; and WHEREAS, the purpose of this Qty Policy is to Provide guidance in considering and evaluating proposals for pudic art and monuments placed on public property W ensure that they are of high artistic meat, the thematic material is appropriate for the Oty, and the monuments treat Meir subject matter with appropnate dignity; and WHEREAS, Article III §23-13 of the Cade of the City of Bangor established a Commission on Cultural Development for Me City of Bangor; and! Public monuments serve to mrognize and mamonahm people, ¢.rents, and ended behos mat are Important to the history of Bangor and to our sense of place as a community.
