ROOo �� y City of Brewer and City of Bangor MAT I QITIE) Resolve, Supporting Actions by the State of Maine to Implement the Air Service Task Force Report and Recommendations. WHEREAS, in August of 1999, Governor Angus King established a Task Force on Air Service at Bangor International Airport which Included representatives of State and Local governments, the Maine Congressional Delegation, and our region's business, medical and educational communities; and WHEREAS, this Task Force has completed its work and issued its final report and recommendations, dated December 29, 1999; and WHEREAS, this report outlines a series of actions which are recommended to be undertaken by Maine State Government, Bangor International Airport, the City of Bangor, and the Maine Congressional Delegation; and WHEREAS, key to these recommendations is the proposal to establish and fund a Bangor Air Service Marketing and Development Initiative to support direct marketing of the region to airlines and to local and out-of-state travelers; and WHEREAS, the availability of convenient and competitive domestic air service within the greater Bangor/Brewer region is essential to the ability of our communities to support existing businesses and Institutions and to continue to grow and develop economically. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCILS OF THE CITIES OF BREWER AND BANGOR, THAT: We commend the actions of Governor King and his administration in convening the Air Service Task Force and hereby express our support for its recommendations. We call upon the Governor, the State Legislature, and the Maine Congressional Delegation to utilize their best efforts, working with local communities and interested parties, to insure that these recommendations are aggressively implemented. In particular, we urge the State Legislature to support the appropriation of $1 million for the proposed Marketing and Development Initiative.
