Item/Subje[t Resolve, Suppmgng the Establishment of a Skateboard Park in the City of Bangor.
Responsible Department; City council
Councilor Crowley has requested that a Council Resolve to indicate support for the
construction of a skateboard park in the City of Bangor.
As you are aware, the Department of Parks and Recreation has been working with a
local group of skateboarders to find a location for such a park. This group would raise
the necessary funds for its initial construction with the City then assuming maintenance
responsibilities.
Over the past year, the Department has investigated a number of sites throughout the
community as potential locations. Most recently, two possible sites at the Bass Park
Complex were reviewed with the Bass Park Committee. Concerns were expressed over
the limited distance between one of the sites and an adjacent residential neighborhood.
The other site at Bass Park had the disadvantage of relative isolation and lack of public
visibility.
At this point, issues have arisen in regard to all of the sites investigated to date.
Councilor Crowley is concerned that these problems may result in project supporters
becoming discouraged in this effort. Consequently, he has suggested that the Council
take action to indicate it support for the project and for the continuing effort to locate
an appropriate site.
The Municipal Operations Committee has reviewed this Resolve and recommends your
approval. In addition, the Committee made a number of suggestions regarding sites
which staff will include in its review process.
