The Commission has been authorized by the City Council to review applications to the City for funding from arts and cultural organizations and m recommend a course of action tu the Cry Council for their review and mnslderation. The Maine Discovery Museum submitted an application for $2,000 to fund Art in fine Heart of Downtmvn an artist in residency program. The program provides the opportunity far children and their families to interact with local artists. Artists conduct worlshops and teach children different forms of art (ex. Fiber ary woodcarving, painting etc). Funding from the cultural appropriation will extend the program through the 2011-2012 academic year. The Commission noted that the application was extremely thorough and well written. The most notable strengths of this program are Its opportunity to connect children with local ardsts. Additionally the activities allow for families to work together to produce artwodc. Collaborations are very strong and partners represent all aspects of the community. The Commission for Cultural Development recommends that the Cry Council approve a grant of $2,OW.
