Commentary: This a continuation of a grant that supports maternal and child health programs in
the City of Bangor. Under the terms of this grant, the Cry would receive $66,740 to continue
providing free Public Health Nursing services for Bangor residents from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2014.
Specifically, the public health nursing programs specialize in maternal child health home visits and
Provide health assessment, education and support for mothers and their children up W age
five. Bangor Public Health Nurses (PHN) focuses on women and children with Identified health needs
and they are particularly skilled in working with families and children affected by substance abuse.
This service Is educationally based and Is not a rhandsrort' nursing service. Emphasis Is on prevention
and the dollars savetl with early mountaineer. These nurses work closely with other area providers and
make skilled assessments and referrals based on the needs of the individual and family. Information
is provitled on issues ranging from pre -term labor and birth to lead poisoning and childhood
developmental evaluations. This was reviewed and recommended for approval by the Government
Dperations Committee.

in the amount of $66,740 each year with the Department of Health and Human
Services, Maine Center for Disease Control, to adress maternal and child health issues
in Bangor.
