HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-09-26 11-293 RESOLVEItem all. 11 293 Date: September 26 2011 Item/Subject: Resolve, Authorizing the City Manager to Accept and Appropriate $26,198 of Edward Byrne Memorial Great Funds in Support of Bangor Police Department and the Penobscot County Sher s Department Responsible Department: Police The Penobscot County Sheriff's Department and the Bangor Police Department have received notification that $26,198 has been awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program. This grant application was previously approved by the Government Operations Committee. To be eligible fa the grant, the Bangor Police Department and the Penobscot County Sheriffs Department were required to file a joint application, with the agreement that one agency act as the administrator and be the pass-through Por the monles under the project The Bangor Police Department will serve as grant administrator and assess a 2% service fee to the Penobscot County Sheriffs Department. The attached Resolve will appropriate the $26,198 in grant funds. Bangor Police Departrnenfs share will be used to support training opportunities that would otherwise not be available, and to purchase six "Urban Assault Rifles" that will be asignedm trained officers. Examples of training are attendance at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference, and training to enhance patrol and detective Investigative techniques Including training In the use of Urban Assault Rifles. This grant does not require any local match.
