HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-08-08 11-259 ORDERCOUNCILACTION Item No. Date: August8 2011 Item/Subject: Order, Authorizing the Airport to Apply for a Grant for up to $700,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Maine Department of Transportation under the Airport Improvement Program Grant #54 to Replace the Airfield Signage Responsible Department: Airport Commentary: If approved, this Order will authorize the Airport to apply for up to $700,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Maine Department of Transportation under the Airport Improvement Program Grant #54 to replace the Airfeld Signage. The current airfield signage Is beginning to show signs of deterioriation and needs to be replaced. Under this grant, the Airport proposes to replace and upgrade existing signs to LED lighted signs. Additionally, the signs purchased under this grant will be from the same manufacturer thus simplifying maintenance and parts inventory. Deterioration of signage was noted by the FAA inspector on our annual FAA Part 139 inspection and recommended for consideration of replacement. The grant will fund 95% of the project with the remaining 5% being split between the Airport and the State. Order, Authorizing the Airport to Apply for a grant for up to $700,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Maine Department of Transportation under the Airport Improvement Program Grant #54 to Replace the Airrield Signage WHEREAS, the City of Bangor owns and operates the Bangor International Airport; and WHEREAS, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Maine Department of Transportation have funds available under the Airport Improvement Program ; and WHEREAS, the intent of the grant is to improve the airfield signage; and WHEREAS, the grant will fund 95% of the project with the remaining 5% being split between the Airport and the State. NOW, THEREFORE, BE R ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, THAT the Airport is authorized to apply for a grant for up to $700,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Maine Department of Transportation under the Airport Improvement Program Grant #54 to replace the airtield signage.
