for his Eagle Scout Project
Reaponsible Department: City Manager
CO®entery: Per the attached letter, we have been approached by Patrick
Worcester of Troop a who has requested permission t ovate the so-called
Crosby Cemetery as his eagle Scout r
t project. certification a
Eagle Scut, each individual must organize andcut t an eagle Scout an
project which is of public benefit and which shows the a out's OrgmizatiOnal
ability. This cemetery has not been maintained by the City in the past and i
overgrown. In addition, it is not clear whether this is a family cemetery or
whether it was sued more widely for burials.
Cleaning and improving the censterY would appear to be an appropriate Project.
The attached Order would authorise this effort. It would also require that
the work to be Performed be reviewed and approved by our Cemetery
Superintendent Jerry angles. AD I understand it, the Scouts Carry liability
insurance which will cover all of those participating in this project.
This has been reviewed by the Municipal Operations Committee which recommends
your approval.

My name is Patrick Worcester. I am a Life Scout in Troop 8,
here in Bangor, and working on my Eagle badge. On November 2,
1996, 1 read an article in the "Weekly" about the "Crosby Cemetery". I
talked to my father about using it as an Eagle Service project and he
thought t would be a good idea. We want to look at the cemetery and
took some pictures. First on November 8th I contacted Mr. Jerry
Hughes of Bangor Public Works Deptartment and he informed me that
the property did not belong to the City of Bangor. On January 17th I
went to the city assessor's office and researched the property. We
discovered that it did belong to the City of Bangor. That is why I am
writing you this fetter.
I would like to use the cemetery as my Eagle project. What I
wart to do is clear out all the trees, bushes and roots where possible.
Then haul in fresh dirt and smooth it out, so grass can be planted.
Clean, repair and reset the available headstones. Build a fence around
the cemetery and make a sign or placque telling a little history of it.
I am asking for your permission to use "Crosby Cemetery' as my
Eagle project. All labor and materials will be donated. There will be no
cost to the city. Your favorable action on this subject will be greatly
appreciated.
