RECOGNIZING, HONORING, &CELEBRATING OUR 30 YEAR SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP
WITH CARASAQUE, EL SALVADOR
WHEREAS, on August 13, 1995 the Bangor City Council issued a proclamation proclaiming
Carasaque, El Salvador as Bangor's Sister City, recognizing a relationship of mutual
1 concern and respect, and a strong bond of friendship between our two cities; and
WHEREAS, Bangor has given representatives from Carasque a key to our city as a token of this
sistering relationship; and
WHEREAS, in the many years since Bangor and Carasque became Sister Cities our bonds and
III exchanges have strengthened, including 25 years of monthly telephone calls, at least
twenty delegations of Mainers to Carasque, and several delegations of Carasquenos to
Maine; and
WHEREAS, Bangor and Carasque residents have learned a tremendous amount from each other
about many issues of common concern, including caring for and nurturing our youth,
developing our local economies, keeping our communities safe, advancing the rights
and status of women, and protecting our environments; and
WHEREAS, the year 2016 marks 30 years of sistering between Salvadoran and U.S. communities,
and there will be an International Sistering Gathering of representatives of more than
40 sistered communities, including delegates from Bangor and Carasque, in Arcatao, El
Salvador on July 22-25, 2016 to celebrate this anniversary and strengthen the sistering
movement.
NOW,THEREFORE,I,Sean Faircloth, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the City Council
and the citizens of Bangor, do hereby send our affectionate greetings to our Sister City and to all those
at the International Sistering Gathering in Aracatao. We reaffirm Bangor's commitment to our Sister
City of Carasque, and to the sistering process in which all of those who are gathered in Arcatao are
engaged.
