HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-06-25 12-221 RESOLVECOUNCIL ACTION Item No. 12-221 Date: June 25, 2012 Item/Subject: Resolve, Accepting and Appropriating a $601,000 Healthy Maine Partnership Grant from the Maine Department of Health and Humans Services to Respond to Public Health Issues Responsible Department: Health and Community Services Commentary: This resolve will accept and appropriate $601,000 in funds to implement the the second year of the Healthy Maine Partnership Grant, which was first awarded in 2011. Bangor Health and Community Services will continue to serve as the lead agency for Penquis Public Health district. As such, we will work to coordinate the district's infrastructure as well as implement public health strategies related to physical activity, nutrition, chronic disease management substance abuse and tobacco prevention. As lead agency, Bangor will subcontract with other Penquis District Healthy Maine Partnerships to implement public health strategies within the service areas. The attached resolve will accept and appropriate the Healthy Maine Partnership grant. Resolve, Accepting and Appropriating a $601,000 Grant from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Healthy Maine Partnership Grant to Respond to Public Health Issues, including tobacco, substance use, nutrition, physical activity, and chronic disease among others. BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR: BE IT RESOLVED THAT, a $601,000 Healthy Maine Partnership Grant from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services is hereby accepted and appropriated to respond to public health issues, including tobacco, substance use, nutrition, physical activity and chronic disease among others. This is the year two continuation of the five year grant that was awarded in 2011. Bangor Health and Community Services will serve as the Penquis Public Health District lead Healthy Maine Partnership. As such, we will work to coordinate the Penquis Public Health District infrastructure and implement public health strategies related to physical activity, nutrition, chronic disease management, substance abuse and tobacco prevention. Additionally, Bangor Health and Community Services will subcontract funding to the other Penquis District HMPs (Piscataquis Public Health Council, Partnership for a Healthy Northern Penobscot, Healthy SV) to implement public health strategies related to physical activity, nutrition, chronic disease management, substance abuse and tobacco prevention in their Healthy Maine Partnership service areas.
