HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-05-30 12-185 ORDINANCECOUNCIL ACTION Item No. 12-1 Date: May 30, 2012 Item/Subject: ORDINANCE, Amending Chapter 134, General Assistance, of the Code of the City of Bangor, to Comply with State Law Responsible Department: Health and Community Services Commentary: Recent changes to state statutes regarding General Assistance require the City to conform its own ordinances to those changes. The changes include a reduction in the maximum levels of assistance to 90% of the level previously in effect, and a limitation on the amount of housing assistance provided to nine months between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013, with certain exceptions. The proposed Ordinance would incorporate the state statute changes into the City Code. Ordinance, Amending Chapter 134, General Assistance, of the Code of the City of Bangor, to Comply with State Law WHEREAS, the Maine Legislature made certain changes to state General Assistance law for the period between July 2012 and lune 2013; WHEREAS, the City, must comply with state law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR AS FOLLOWS, Chapter 134 of the Code of the City of Bangor be amended as follows; § 134-27. Amount of assistance. A. The overall maximum levels of assistance shall be periodically adjusted to conform to 22 M.R.S.A. § 4305(3-B) as published aniquall from time to time in the Maine Municipal Association's General Assistance Ordinance Appendices and to the assistance limits and exceptions provided in 22 M.R.S.A. § 4305(3-C) and § 4308(1-A) and (1-B).
