Responsible Department: Police Commentary: The Penobscot County Sheriff's Department and the Bangor Police Department have received notification that they are eligible to receive $21,793 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program. Under the proposed grant, the City of Bangor and Penobscot County would each receive $11,114.43. Additionally, Penobscot County would pay the City of Bangor 2% or approximately $222 for administration of the grant. The purpose of the grant is to provide law enforcement training and for the purchase of law enforcement equipment. There is no match required. ORDERED, THAT the application by the City Manager for $21,793 in funds from the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program, of which $11,114.43 will be used by the Bangor Police Department for employee training and equipment, and $10,678.57 will be awarded to the Penobscot County Sheriffs Department as required by the grant, be ratified.
