Item No. 12
Date: March 12, 2012
Item/Subject: ORDER, Authorizing Public Works to Apply for a Local Maine Roads, Local
Traffic Signs Grant in the Amount of $30,000.00 to Erect New or Replace Signs on Rural Roads.
Responsible Department: Public Works
Commentary:
This order authorizes Public Works to apply for a $30,000 grant from MDOT which will allow
Public Works to replace and upgrade regulator and warning signs on the City's rural roads, which
are not eligible for other funding. Roads that we would be eligible include but are not limited to
Outer Union Street, Finson Road, Broadway, Church Road, Essex Street, Stillwater Avenue and
Chase Road. The grant requires a 10% local match which would be paid for from the Public
Works sign material account. The exact amount of the grant will not be known until the roads
are inventoried by the City's Sign Technician and the MDOT Traffic Engineer. This was reviewed
and recommended for approval by the Infrastructure Committee on March 6, 2012.
