HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-02-27 12-093 ORDERCOUNCIL ACTION Item No. 12 093 Date: 2-27-11 Item/Subject: Order, Authorizing the City Manager to Execute a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Bangor and IAFF Local 772, Representing Certain Employees of the Fire Department Responsible Department: Executive commentary: Labor negotiations with the Fire Department employees have resulted in a Tentative Agreement between the City and the IAFF, Local 772. This agreement follows the expiration of the most recent contract which ended in June 2011. Essentially, the new contract is a one-year extension of the current contract. The parties agreed to change dates in the contract in several locations and to include the most recent health insurance rates, which became effective on January 1st. Otherwise the terms and conditions included in the previous three-year contract will continue forward through June 30, 2012. The Union has recently voted to ratify the one-year tentative agreement. The agreement was reached within the bargaining guidelines previously established by the City Council, and the Council reviewed the proposed agreement in Executive Session on January 13th. The agreement is presented with the recommendation of the Management Negotiating Committee and City Manager. Manager's Comments: Recommend approval. Order, Authorizing the City Manager to Execute a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Bangor and IAFF Local 772, Representing Certain Employees of the Fire Department BE IT ORDERED THAT, the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a one-year Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Bangor and IAFF Local 772 for a term commencing July 1, 2011 and expiring June 30, 2012 in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Tentative Agreement reached between the Bargaining Committees and previously reviewed with the City Council. July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012 12 093 ARTICLE 26 Health Insurance Effective January 1, 2012 Weekly Cost These rates shall remain in effect for the calendar year January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012. 4. The City's contribution to health insurance effective January 1, 2013 and thereafter will be limited to one-half (1/2) of the increased cost of the Open Access Plus 90% Plan unless negotiated otherwise. ARTICLE 46 Duration 1. The contract shall be effective from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. In the event that collective bargaining pursuant to M.R.S.A. Title 26 shall not have been successfully completed prior to the expiration date above herein provided, the parties hereto specifically agree that the present contract shall remain in force and effect until a new contract shall be negotiated.
