This is a large scale community education initiative including public outreach and hands-on school programs through 2012; resulting in a series of activities and products which will supplement and enhance their 2012 annual exhibit titled "No Boundaries: Women's Roles in the Civil War". In its review of the application, the Commission noted that the program is unique in nature and will reach a large cross section of the community through a variety of activities geared to different segments of the population (children, teen, and seniors). The grant application was complete, well organized on program approach, outreach and collaboration and met funding criteria. The Commission unanimously recommends partial funding of the request at the level of $3,000. This grant was reviewed and recommended for approval by the Business and Economic Development Committee at its meeting of February 8, 2012. (NOTE: The Commission on Cultural Development current available budget is 22,950. The Commission will have $19,950 remaining available, if this grant is approved.) ORDER, Authorizing Grant of $3,000 to the Bangor Museum and History Center "No Boundaries: Women's Roles in the Civil War" Program WHEREAS, the City Council has made an appropriation of funds to support arts and cultural organizations; has established a Commission on Cultural Development; and has assigned the Commmission the responsbility of reviewing grant applications from arts and cultural organizations, and to make recommendations for grant funding to the City Council; and WHEREAS, the Bangor Museum and History Center submitted an application for funding of $3,000 in partial support of "No Boundaries: Women's Roles in the Civil War" Community Programing Initiative; and WHEREAS, the total fund-raising goal for the project is $7,500, and the project has raised $2,500 to date from sources other than the City; and WHEREAS, the mission of the Bangor Museum and History Center is to engage the community in stories of our region that enrich our lives, inspire our children and strengthen our future; and WHEREAS, the program supports education of Bangor area residents about the changing social roles of Maine women during the Civil War and how those changes made future Civil Rights and Suffrage Movements possible; and WHEREAS, the program is a large scale community education initiative including public outreach and hands-on school programs through 2012; end result a series of activities and products which will supplement and enhance the 2012 annual exhibit titled "No Boundaries: Women's Roles in the Civil War"; and WHEREAS, the grant application was complete, well organized on program approach, outreach and collaboration and met funding criteria; and WHEREAS, the Commission on Cultural Development unanimously voted to recommend to the City Council approval of a grant in the amount of $3,000.
