Item/Subject ORDER, Authorizing Grant of $2,000 to the Bangor Area Children's Choir
Responsible Department: Community & Economic Development
Commentary: The City Council has given the Commission on Cultural Development the responsibility
to review grant applications to the City from arts and cultural organizations and to provide to the City
Council its recommendations for funding of the requests for the Council's review and consideration.
The Bangor Area Children's Choir submitted an application for funding of $2,000 in partial support of the
20th Anniversary Community Celebration. Grant funds will support a gala celebration to recognize
founders, volunteers and performers over the past 20 years of the organization's operation. The event
will be free to the public and will take place on May 11, 2012. Additionally this event will kick start a
fundraising campaign and set the stage for recruitment of additional singers and volunteers.
In its review of the application, the Commission noted that the program is unique in nature and will
allow more community youth to experience and get involved with the arts. The grant application was
complete, well organized on program approach, outreach and collaboration and met funding criteria. The
Commission unanimously recommends full funding of the request. This grant was reviewed and
recommended for approval by the Business and Economic Development Committee at its meeting of
February 8, 2012.
